Default Nylon or metal clevis - which is best?

I am assembling a Hanger 9 Alpha 60 trainer. It came supplied with Hanger 9 nylon clevises. I'm not sure that I want to use them.

What are the pros and cons of a nylon clevis? Should I use metal?

Thanks,
Larry

I've been told that metal clevis and metal horn are a bad mix. Something about the metal contact causing radio interference. I'll use a nylon clevis for the throttle and metal clevis to a nylon horn for control surfaces.

As mike says, never use both metal clevis and metal horn at the same time.

I always use metal clevis and stron nylon horn. Thats the best.

Plastic clevises are OK on smaller models but otherwise they are crap

The horns are nylon and the clevises that Hanger 9 supplied are nylon. Question is, should I stick with the nylon clevis on the nylon horn or go with a metal clevis and the nylon horn?

Larry

I would not use a nylon clevis on a nylon control horn. Nylon to nylon tends to eat the pin out of the clevis. The only place to use a nylon clevis is on a metal throttle arm. Most all of the hardware that comes with ARFs works best in the trash can anyhow.

A lot of the clevis's and such that come with ARF's have a metric thread. Be very careful when you substitute. I lost a plane that way, as the clevis came off the rod on the elevator. Substitute with metric threads. DuBro makes some good ones, their plastic clevis with metal pin and lock are particularly nice.

I had to disconect the nylon elevator clevis in order to repair a tail wheel once and was astonished to see the clevis pin worn thin as a hair. Next flight would probably have ment no elevator control. I switched all my planes from nylon to metal and have never again used a nylon clevis.

I use these: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXKLV3&P=7. I got them at the LHS. It did not come with the controll arms just the clevises. They are heavy duty. They aslo have a locking device. I like them a lot. You probably could use the one that come with I have not have any trouble with them (KNOCK ON WOOD).

Those are also the clevises I use. They come in 2mm, 2-56, and 4-40 sizes. The 2mm are a great replacement for the up to .46 Arf's clevises.
