Default LETS SHOW OFF OUR COVERING DESIGNS!!!!

The reason for this thread is twofold. First i love looking at creative covering jobs. I have done a recover on my trainer and have covered a LT-40 which i built for my uncle. Second of all i have a SSE that is framed up and am looking for inspiration to hit!! Care to help me out???

Here are pictures of my last SSE that I did. You can find instructions on doing the covering with Windex here:

Are those all decals in your pictures or monokote? Kind of curious cause it looks like a heck of a design Ken.

The flag on the top, the starts, the date, and the "Let's Roll" are all monokote. The smaller graphics are printed.

How do you do that? Do you cut the monokote into the pieces, stick them together and then stick it all overtop of another piece? In other words, do you cover the whole wing and then put that on top of the first layer of covering?

That's exactly how it's done. First cover the wing in white, and then lay down the color on top of the white using Windex. If you follow the link I provided in my first post here there is a step by step how-to on using windex for monokote. That thread is what I used when I covered my plane.

Termagator does a dandy job of illistrating how to do that. And Ken yours looks awesome. Being from Canada i would obviously like to do the canadian flag but being such a simple design i will have to play around and see how it looks. I bought another SSE and am working on it right now. These planes are such a joy to build it is just to easy. I am going to do the second on up in my favorite NHL teams design (Edmonton Oilers). I know I know they are sucking right now but hey there is always next year. Please guys i would like to see a whole bunch of covering designs.

OK, here's mine. I wanted to play around with "graphics" so I picked up a 4*40 ARF just for that reason. I did not remove and recover the Ultracote, I simply cut and applied Monokote flames over it in three seperate layers. There is a small bubble here and there, but not too bad for a first attempt. Hope I upload the pictures correctly....

Flyboy 76,
Here's some more inspiration for you.

RCKen,
The airplane in the pictures is in need of recovering badly.. Unfortunately the skill used in the first covering job is FAR beyond my abilities. I showed these picuresto MinnFlyer in another post and he said you may be able to help me with some of the graphics. I would like to use the "AREO" "SPORT" graphics on my plane when I recover it. Can you help me out? Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. To give you an idea of scale, the plane is an 80" wingspan Midwest Extra 300.

FLy safe and have fun everyone!!
David

Thanks Flyboy. At first, I tried the Windex method, but due to the open bays between the ribs, it was very difficult. I ended up using my iron and alot of elbow grease!

Here are my few...

I'm a big fan of the 'glass method' (building up a covering scheme, layered on a sheet of glass, then apply it to the plane)

The Northstar is just colured panels between the ribs. (pitty, as the underside is an ugly 'bright baby blue')

The stick is just scraps & bits...

The slow poke has a 'wintery camouflage' theme.
