Working with foam
Hi;
I'm building a Venture 60 and want to try a couple of things: (1) replace the turtle deck "stringer & cover" with a foam piece and (2) build a fiberglass cowl using the "lost foam" method.
My questions:
(1) Will I have difficulty getting thin balsa, (1/32?) to form around the turtle deck's curve and what should I use for adhesive? I'm skeptical that 3M 77 will hold over the hot summer.
(2) What should I use to bond the foam together with to get the the foam the thickness I'll need to form the mold? Should I use a "release" or just gouge out the foam after cure?
I'm planning to use Owens-Corning "pink" insulation foam, (1½ inch) for these jobs.
Thanks everybody!

RE: Working with foam
If you don't want to use 3m77, you could use epoxy, wood glue, gorilla glue, sorgham. gouge out as much of the foam as you can and clean up the remainder with a solvent.
