Default After the snow melts...

What is the first plane you plan to fly after the snow melts?

1) A trainer
2) The project I sweated over all winter
3) The crashed airplane I repaired this winter
4) A cheap ARF
5) The plane I find after the snow melts off it
6) Somebody else's airplane

Just finished my US60. Will need to get its maiden flight to set up trim, and get used to it. Although, I only have 5 flights on my 4*60 and am still breaking in the engine. OH...rats, now even I'm not sure!

I haven't flown since October. I'll be getting my wings back on a trainer before I take out my winter projects.

I really don't know.

Last Season Hanger: Status

1) http://www.cma1193.com/MbrHgrPics/hilleyJ2002b.jpg
US 60 -w- Saito FA-100 This is still my favorite airplane and will probably be in my van when I visit the airfield for my 1st post winter flying session .

2) http://www.cma1193.com/MbrHgrPics/hilleyJ2002a.jpg
Ultra Sport -w- TT 46pro This is also one of my standbys. I will, however, have to do a slight re-bending of the landing gear before I can fly her. She will probably not be in my van for my 1st post winter flying session .

3) World Models P-40 Warhawk -w- Saito FA-72 I've only flown this airplane during one session. It is normally setup with rotating retracts but I couldn't keep it from nosing over on our grass field. The last time I flew her my landing gear gradually pancaked after each flight -- I will have to re-bend them or replace them with a heavier guage. Maybe later in the season .

4) http://www.cma1193.com/MbrHgrPics/hilleyJ2002e.jpg
TT Fun Tiger -w- OS FX .46 My knock-around airplane. Unfortunately the last time I flew her I dumb-thumb the landing and cracked the profile fuselage. I think it will only take CA and maybe a fiberglass bandage wrap to fix. Will probably wait to later in the season to get her back in the air .

5) http://www.cma1193.com/MbrHgrPics/hilleyJ2002f.jpg
SkyFire 40 -w- MVVS 40 on tune pipe Since installing the MVVS 40 I have only flown once. It dead-sticked on me. I want to work on this used engine on my test stand before flying again. This is not an airplane I want to dead-stick very often .

6) http://www.cma1193.com/MbrHgrPics2001/hilleyHNGl.jpg
Model Tech ME-109 -w- Webra Silverline 40 Another one of my airplanes that do not like grass runways and has caused me problems with the landing gear. It has been quite a while since I broke the landing gear block in the wing and maybe later this season I'll finished the repair and get back to flying it .

7) http://www.cma1193.com/MbrHgrPics2001/hilleyHNGk.jpg
OK Models EZ Cap 232 -w- OS SX .50 I've been struggling with this airplane for the last year. Its supposed to be a 46-size 3D aerobat. I've tried using an OS FX .46, then an MDS .68. I finally settled on an OS SX .50. This past winter I put the final touches on the new cowl and it is ready for the new season's flying. It will be in the van for my 1st post-winter flying session .

New Season (Winter Projects)Hanger: Status

1) http://www.cma1193.com/Projects/Picture%20010m.jpg
Hanger 9 1/4-scale Cap 232 -w- Moki 180 This is my major winter project -- it is finished. I only have to run the engine in on my test stand for about a gallon of fuel and then I will have my inaugural flight. I'm hoping it is ready for the 1st post-winter flying session .

2) http://www.cma1193.com/Projects/Picture%20034m.jpg
Pizza-Box Stop Sign -w- OS .28 This is now the craze. Corogated plastic with an engine and flight pack attached to it. My entry is in the shape and color of a STOP SIGN. Definitely will be in the van for my 1st post-winter flying session .

3) U-Can-Do 3D -w- Saito FA-100 I've been playing at 3D with my profile airplane and intend to work into it with my 1/4-scale Cap. But, this is the airplane that will replace my knock-around profile. I only have to break in the brand new Saito and she is ready to go -- definite addition to my 1st post-winter flying session .

4) http://www.cma1193.com/Projects/hilley01of01.jpg
J&C Fun Bat Speed demon 3-channel 15-size airplane, designed for combat. Up till now my previous versions of these have been used for simple sports flying. Clarksburg Model Aviation Club is having an unofficial Fun Bat fly-in on March 30th at our field -- this is my entry .

5) Model Tech Magic Extra -w- OS SX .50 Old man winter is still playing with us so I'm still doing winter projects. I just picked up a used OS SX .50 and thought it would be dynamite for this airplane. Move over U-Can-Do 3D, make some room for the Magic Extra. I need at least 2 airplanes to replace my profile .

Those are just the ones that are flyable or near to being flyable.

I have the same plane, and also broke one of the LG blocks out of the wing. Stripped the wing, repaired the damage, removed both gearstruts and bent them forwards so that the centerline of the wheels matches up with the wing's LE, reassembled and recovered. It flies fine, and doesn't nose over as easily.

FYI - Aluminum monokote is a *perfect* match for the silver covering used on this plane.

I flew last week off a side road of compact snow. -5C with a breeze but it keeps the thumbs in practice. I plan to start the year with my plans built RCM basic bipe shown below.

Cheers

Geez, I must have done about 100 touch and goes in the snow last weekend. It was awsome. Supposed to snow for the next week. Nice. We haven't had any this year so I am looking forward to it. Just about an inch last weekend. This is montana. We are supposed to be under about 3 feet right now.
