Stickers and decals
Hi,
What is used to protect the decals and stickers from drying/peeling of from Monocote covering? I have used clear dope and it somehou started shrinking and kind of desolving. My 9 year old daughter have same problems with stickers on plastic models. Need advise,
Thanks,
Jan

RE: Stickers and decals
You can seal the stickers and decals with "light" successive coats of clear polyurethane. I have had success with automotive clear coat over extensive decaling. The trick is to put the clear coat on in light coats so it doesn't get a chance to attack the decal before it dries. Once you have sealed the surface you can put a wet coat on.

RE: Stickers and decals
Thanks John
I will give it a try. Building a Stearman and the wing is very shiny yellow monokote so Iam concern if it will not change color or make somekarks in the transition area decal to covering. Any experience with this one?
Thanks again

RE: Stickers and decals
Hi Jan,
I agree with Ken I have tried various methods and the clear finger nail polish doesn't yellow and when applied just to the edges where decal meets the covering film it is almost impossible to see in most lighting conditions and any excess is easily cleaned up with acetone. Don't wipe acetone across painted or most clear coated surfaces[]
I see that you are building a Stearman. Wouldn't Solartex or equivilant be a more authentic finish? The clear nail polish has worked fine for me on decals over monocoat and painted coverall.
Cheers,
Colin
