Default O.S. 46 AX vs. Saito .72 ACC

Here's my dilema. I have a Hanger 9 Showtime 50 with a O.S. 46 AX in it. The engine pulls the plane well enough for general pattern but nothing real advanced. It does not have enough for 3D. I have a Saito .72 that is in a Great Planes CAP 232. I am getting rid of the CAP 232 (hopefully selling it) just because I don't like the way CAP's fly. I am thinking about trying out the .72 in the Showtime. Question # 1 - Will the Saito .72 be enough for the Showtime 50 or should I throw the .72 in a Hanger 9 Funtana 50 X. ANd question #2 if the .72 is not enough which engine could I use in the Showtime without going too overboard...O.S. 55 AX, O.S. 75 AX, Saito .82 or Saito 100?

OS 55 AX or Saito .82 or .91 for either plane.

waross, I just replaced a Saito 82 with an OS55 on a sport plane. The 55 is still sort of new but it pulls the plane with at least the same authority as the 82 and doesn't use any more fuel and seems to be quieter doing it. I really like the 55 and on my particular plane it pulls it out of sight. I think I will take my 82 to the swap meets and use some of the money I get from it to buy another 55.

The 46 and the 72 are about the same when it is all said and done.
There is a big boost in power when you make the next step in the four strokes.
The people I know that fly their planes like helicopters have them over powered to the extreme and use large diameter low pitch props.
The engine is usually running at 1/2 throttle or less when it is hovering, because that is where the throttle is most linear.
I don't know which is the right engine but the 82 and the 100 don't have a weight penalty compared to the 72 and 91.
