Default PROP NOISE

im not quite sure how to describe this but im going to give it a shot.we all know when you have a motor tuned just right and its running at peak rpm and it sounds just right and tachs right about where it should be.right? ok. now when you get the motor in the air and you make a high speed pass if its propped a certain way you will hear the prop have a sweet whinning sound as it goes bye. im not talking about the motor just the prop and the sound it gives off.usually i hear it when i have a relitively low pitch, wide prop on the motor.for instance a apc 14x4w pitch prop turning about 11.000 rpm.usually its a apc that i get to sound like that but rarely a get a master airscrew to sound that good. if you know what im talking about, what is happening that the prop makes this great sound and why usually does it do it on lower pitch props. but i will say i almost always hear it on compition or show planes that are running larger motors like da 100 or 150's on acrobatic planes like extras or a edge 540. thanks for reading, kraig

I would have to hear it to be certain but I think what you describe is the noise made when the prop tips go supersonic.

From your description I agree with j.dunker prop tips going supersonic.
I have switched over to four strokes and I try to keep them proped so I do not hear that sound.
One man's music is the neighbor's noise.

No way the tips were supersonic at that RPM. More like .6 Mach

Props actually get pretty loud long before the tips actually go supersonic.

If you really want to hear how much noise a prop can make, listen to this high performance electric plane.

No kidding, for his tips to go super sonic with a 14 inch prop he has to turn better than 18 600 rpm... unless hes is running a jett dont see that happeneing

If a prop went sonic it did it just about the time it disintegrated. They don't break mach and survive.

If y'all think that SOUNDS great, here's something that LOOKS great.

The scene: late afternoon on a hot, humid summer's day.
Equipment: A fairly fast plane with a blunt airfoil.
situation. Make a low, fairly high speed pass low over the runway, and watch the vapor trail from the condensation off the leading edge of the wing.
