I had one with a Moki 1.35/BCM pitts. Very nice.
Before it a had the Extra in the same series. That had a 1.20 surpass II/pump.
The M' powered Sukhoi was far better in the power dept'.
Today I'd use an OS 1.60FX and an F3A muffler pipe set-up.
Bags of power. No drama.
Thats what I hate about BCM mufflers. They don't muffle. Just divert oil.

Cleaner too.

It's going to be a very sedate performer, yet cheap to run.

It's a Saito 150 with a perry pump. The fuel tank is over the CG.
Here is a matched set with Saito 150s and Perry pumps also with the tank over the cg. They are identical to the last nut and bolt excepting the reversed color schemes.I have been thinking about putting a seriously lightened G-26 in one of them for a sport IMAC plane

The LS26 is generating 14lbs of thrust w/ 17x8 prop.
It wont be too sedate.

Gremlin Castle, What prop are you using on your 150s?

Hey don't get me wrong, I'm interested in your choice!
These engines seem cheap, but the ignition/mount/muffler are all extra right?
What is the all up weight, muffler, mount/ign'/battery/switch?

Actually the price includes ignition and pitts muffler.
AUW is about 2.5lbs for 26cc and 3.5lbs for 50cc

I use the APC 16X8 and 16X10. For most flying the 16X8 gives better upline performance and better downline braking. I haven't tried comparable size Xoar props but I suspect that they would be a good choice also.

I am using an APC 16/8 also. Seems to be an excellent choice.

Just picked up one of these at an auction. It seems to be in pretty good shape. I was thinking of putting the Saito 220 in it as it had a 150 in it originally and I happen to have a 220 sitting around. Looks like the previous owner had to add weight in the nose with the 150 so I'm hoping to be good with the 220. I will be using a rubber dampened mount for the engine and quarter scale servos on the rudder and elev as well as +100oz/in torque servos on the ailerons. I also will be using on board glow with a micro switch off the throttle servo. The kit is the 1st series with the gear mounted in the wing. I was thinking of running an 18x8 prop on the 220 as I have read other people getting good numbers and response with that combo. I have no experience with this particular plane or engine and any tips would be appreciated. By the way, I don't plan on flying it fast, just smooth.

The ones that I fly are 1st generation and both have had the gear mounts replaced and strengthened. The original plywood plate did not span the mounting area fore and aft enough to distribute the moment generated by the landing gear trying to roll backwards under the plane when landing. Aircraft grade plywood about twice as wide set into the ribs cured the problem. This is a good airframe at 10.1/2 lbs or less. After that it becomes less of a performer and starts taking on warbird characteristics when landing.

Insane,

That was me. I was going home with that plane no matter what. Builder did a great job on it. Great deal for only $140.

Good day........... I had a 1.08, OS on mine and changed to a OS 120 four stroke and it works fine. The G-26 might be a little heavy. I even build an 80" foam, sheeted, and Monocoated wing to make it a big bird. The fuse I glassed and painted it. I hate Monocoat. Mine is a real floater. you really got to slow it down or it just goes flying on by.......... Thanks, Nick

Stratosn, Do you have photos of the plane with the 80" wing? That's an interesting modification.

Maybe you could take a shot or two after you get set up tomorrow before you fly and post the photo here when you get back?

(Late entry to this thread). I purchased a partially built Goldberg Sukhoi 26 1.20 size without the sheet of plans. My question: what is the center of gravity for this plane? I've downloaded the instructions and have gone throuigh them 3-4 times and can't find the specifications for the center of gravity.
I plan to put an OS FS 120 surpass II engine in it mounted horizontally.

Icantley, I'm looking at my plans booklet and I had penciled in some CG info. I wrote down "CG = 4 and 1/2 inches to 5 and 1/4 inches from leading edge at root. Then next to that I wrote, My CG is at 5 and 4 and 1/2 16ths (slightly over 5 and 1/4 inches) from leading edge. Mine flies fine at that CG. I have a book entitled "Aerobatics for Everyone" by Dave Patrick and he talks about Torque rolling with the Goldberg Sukhoi and he sets his CG at 6" from leading edge for best torque rolls[X(]! He also states "This setup isn't for the faint hearted so DON'T start here. We are near the point if inherent stability." Looking at my notes, I maidened mine at a CG of 4 and 14/16ths. After flying quite a few flights, I finally settled on about 5 and 1/4" (which is the furthest plans recommended aft setting) as stated above. I hope this helps as I would have to go into my attic and search for the plans to verify my notes.

Bass1, thanks a BUNCH! It's close to good flying weather here in NC (plenty of much-needed rain here in drought-ridden southeast), and I hope to have this plane covered and ready to go in a few more days. I've read so many threads on this plane's flight characteristics that I feel like I've already flown it!
