Default heli engine in a plane ???

Can anyone tell me if you can or can't use a heli engine in a plane? Just wondering. I have one setting around and thought I might try it in a plane.

Default heli engine in a plane ???

Combs 1,

Yes it will work, the engine most likely won't like being cowled in, overheating may be an issue.

Default heli engine in a plane ???

Thanks for the info. The plane I was going to try it in is scratch built Hawker Sea Fury. The cowl is very large with lots of space in front for air intake. I built the scale exhaust openings to let the air pass through the cowl.

Default heli engine in a plane ???

I would think that with more cooling fins and a larger head it would not mind being in a cowl. It might not come up to temp. with all of the air flow.

I had a car engine in a plane. It fraged after a little while. The piston was scored anf the con rod broke. The top of the liner had the chrome worn off. It did not get hot enough to allow for expansion.

I am running a ST 34H in a 20 size plane now for a little over two gallons of fuel with no problems.

Default heli engine in a plane ???

I'm using an OS32sxh in my 4-Star. It makes a great plank engine after serving hard time in a Concept 30.

Default heli engine in a plane ???

I used an os 61sx in a fantrainer. chose it because the heli engines are usually higher performance than the plane engines.
Aka: thr heli went to 18,000 over the planes 16,000 rated
and never had problem.

Default heli engine in a plane ???

I have been putting Heli engines on planes for years.
Put it in anyway you want. Provide cooling the same way you would with any engine.

Heli engines are the same as non heli, the difference is the heat sink head, and many times the main shaft is shorter.

I can tell you this........ The engine will not know where it is...
