Default Fuel Tank Placement and Kit Designs for CG

Why aren't planes designed more often with the tank on or just in front of the CG? Seems this would be the best placement as the plane would fly more consistently with less fluctuation in the CG point?

It's hard for most engines to draw fuel that distance

Anything you can do to promote fuel flow when moving the tank back?

Yes indeed. There are a number of fuel pumps on the market that can help if the tank is to far away from the engine. Perry makes quite a selection of them. Good Luck, Dave

I have been placing fuel Tanks on the CG for years. The picture shows a 4 stroke 90 in an ARF U-Can-Do. The tape measure shows the distance of the tank to engine. There is no pump in the system. I have had no fuel feed problems.

Ther other picture shows a pylon racer where the distance from tank to engine is 9". We certainly do not want or get fuel feed problems with one of those. We do not want or get trim changes either during the flight.

Whether these types of set-ups will apply to all airplanes I cannot say. Instead of listening to the "Expert" naysayers, try it.
