Default servo mounting?

I have a brand new super kraft 1/4 scale cap 232 90 size airplane. The rudder and ele. servos are in the fuse and the arf comes with the dowel rod set up witch is very crappy and loose. I want to move the ele servos to the rear and make short pushrods using only metal rod for a stiff pushrod. The one thing i wanted to know is, is it alright to mount the servos up right insted of sideways? I am thinking of mounting them this way to keep from cutting to much covering open and to keep from cutting in to the wooden fuse ribs.will this make a difference on the performance of the servos output? I'm using the Hitec HS-645MG ultra torque servos, two on the ele, one on each side.

It shouldn't make any difference to mount them any way you want. Although mounting them in the tail will require more weight in the nose for balance.

I did something similar years ago, but instead of mounting them upright, I mounted them upside down and made a small hatch on the bottom side of the fuse to install/access/adjust them. See if this option may work for you (the access hatch is barely noticeable if its on the bottom). Bob

Thanks for the fast answers and info. Going to try to have this plane ready to fly in the A.M., if the wind permits.
