How do the plans say to build them?

I would use either spruce or music wire encased in spruce. If you use spruce then you'll have to cut a slot in the end and embed a plate of brass or aluminum. Pin the plate to the strut and wrap the ends with thread and glue.

Default struts

Here's how I did it on my Aeromaster:

The struts are made from 3/16" ply, cut to shape and edges sanded. I first made a cardboard template.

You can see the attachment in the next post. I used Golberg brackets and 2/56 bolts and blind nuts. Plywood attach points were built into the wings. Very simple, strong and functional.

The flying wires were made from "gimp" (plastic lacing material available in craft stores) and clevices. I got this from a Ziroli article in one of the magazines.

Default struts

Strut attachment.

The flying wire attachments are made of brass sheet and screwed to the same attach points as the struts.

Hope this is useful to you.

(Sorry about the dust on the wing! Haven't flown this plane yet this year!)

Handyman,

This is how I'm doing them on my Nosen Citabria (1/4 scale - G23 powered):

As I haven't finished, I can't tell you how well they will work, but I'm fairly confident right now. They will be wrapped with glass cloth/resin around the area where I've doweled the tabs in.

Clubman,

Brilliant! great photos too. Thanks. Too late for me to incorporate some of those ideas in my project, but if I ever do another similar type 1/4 scale....

Cheers
