Default Cub Wheels & Tires Assembly

Does anyone know how the Du-Bro Cub tires with the split hubs work? I cannot seem to get the collars in the right location. If I had a diagram of their assembly on the axle, that would be great.

Thanks,

ckelloggjr

Download this manual for the Hangar 9 J-3 and look at page 21, http://www.hangar-9.com/ProdInfo/Fil...Arf_lo-res.pdf

Simple enough; collar on the inside, to limit travel. Grind a small flat on the axle where the set screw goes, use some Locktite blue on the set screw once you get it in place. The Cub wheels have a recess on each side, once the halves are screwed together; slide the wheel on the axle until the deeper recess fits against the collar. Slide the outer collar on the axle, allow just enough side play that the wheel doesn't bind between the collars (maybe use a small washer between the collar and wheel), and tighten the second set screw. You might have to use a standard Allen wrench and cut part of the short arm off to get to the set screw. The Cub hubcap will fit over the outer collar, and secures to the wheel with three small screws.

Thanks for the help. I am taking the Great Planes wheels back to my LHS and getting the Du-Bro brand. They use ONE collar sandwiched between the halfs of the hub. Very nice! I still cannot figure out why GP even bothered with a split hub if I have to rig an allen wrench and wedge it in place to tighten the collar. Beside this, the yellow cap does not lay flat against the hub; it contacts the collar first! Not a good set up. Dubro is best.

Thanks again,
