AXI Electric 4130/20 Motor Which batteries?
Howdy Smart Electric Pilots, Just wondering if anyone knows what battery packs I will need to power my AXI 4130/20 Electric Motor for a .60 size Top Flight Spitfire Mk IX. I'm new to electrics but I'd like to install this motor in a new plane I'm building. I'm sure I'd have to run batteries in series, but what Lipo's will I need to power this plane for at least 10 minutes; maybe? I've heard they can get 8 to 10 minutes of sports like flying, is this true? Anyways, if anyone knows; please fill me in. I think this is the direction I'd like to go. Plug and fly sounds good too. No more messy clean-up. Thanks, Matt

http://www.motocalc.com/ is a good place to start.
What prop do you intend to use on that motor? What pitch speed do you need for that toy? Answering those questions will help you determine what pack will work best.
Also search for information on A123 cells that you can use to assemble packs without some of the issues related to LiPo cells.

Thank you glover1482, Very cool site, I like the fact, your making me do my homework. It's not always smart just to "tell someone" information; then they just go buy the packs without having any knowledge of saftey, the right charge rates and so on. But thank you for the site, looks like I'll learn allot. starcop

Starcop, I would predict that a 3800 mah 8s lipo would be just the ticket, or two 3800mah 4s packs wired in series. A 16X10 or 15X12 prop on front. Good luck, be prepared to amaze the guys who fly glow planes.
Be sure to get a wattmeter, if it saves you from burning out just one ESC, it will more than pay for itself.
