Putting a .45 engine on a .39 airplane kit
I found a kit that I would like to build. As I was re reading the tech specs, it says the plane is for a .19 - .39 engine. What are the ramifications of building that plane and using an existing .45 engine?

Most of the time it will be fine. Just be sure to keep CG in the right plane.
What plane is it? You dont see very many planes with that size engine recomnedation.

That's quite a variable, 19-39. Extra power can be ok but also must be concerned with extra weight, structural integrity and CG as mentioned. Off hand without knowing more about plane I would not recommend a 45 engine.

I wouldn't worry about it. If it will fit, put it on. Just make sure that you are allways aware of the power. Start out with min throttle till u get used to it and then increase as u get more used to it. I've been flying a kit built Sig Kadet recomended motor was a .25, (plane is over 30 yrs old) with an O.S. .60 and it flys great. The only thing I added was alerons.>>>-> Bill

The kit is a SIG Kobra. Correct balance has always been a priority when I build a kit. I am a part-time flyer right now, so a well balanced plane compensates for wanting skills.
