Default Art Hobby Sierra 2.5m... wood finish or monokote?

I recently bought an Art Hobby Sierra 2.5m sailplane kit. The directions say to finish the wings and stabs with a clear-cote spray paint. I know this is supposed to look really nice and all, but wouldn't the plane be faster with the wings and stabs covered with monokote? The plastic is much smoother than the natural wood finish, which makes me think that it would make for a faster flying plane. And in addition to that, monokote strengthens the wing because it is stuck to the entire surface. So let me know what you think I should do.
