Default Big Stick 40 or 60

For reasons of my own I prefer not to have aircraft with German insignia. I also am lazy and do not want to re-skin an aircraft. Does anyone know of a big stick that does not come as an arf with German insignia? Thanks.

The Great Planes Big Stik only comes in the scheme you do not prefer.

If a different brand 'Stick' will work, take a look at...
Ultra Stick 40, two color combinations

Go with a H9 Ultrastick. They fly better.

Lazaras

I thought the same thing, I got the 40 size. Now I wish I
had gotten the 60 size. Das Ugly Stik has 7 Crosses.

Hope that helps,

Bob

I was just looking for info on the Big Stick .40 (great planes) and I saw your post. I had a Joss Stick with these insignias, and I simply peeled them off and left the white stripes. You could then replace them with your favorite decal or just leave them white. On the Joss Stick, I painted the bold white stripes on the main wing florescent yellow . But I really dont think these insignias are German swaticas, I think they are called Maltese crosses, but I still dont know their origion.

The crosses come off very easily. They are in two pieces. By running your finger over them determine which one is on top.
I use an exacto knife and carefully lift one corner until it can be grabbed by fingers. Then pull if off. Then get the other piece.
Underneath you will find ball point marks that were used to align the crosses. This rubs off with isopropyl alcohol. Also very
very small black pieces of the cross sometimes remain. These are so small you can leave them or remove them with an exacto
knife. I have used WWI American roundels in place of the crosses. ( Towerhobbies.com decal ). The plane then becomes a
captured German big stick. Depending upon how much of a perfectionist you are, the job takes from 15 to 30 minutes.
40 or 60 size about the same.

the Maltese Cross was a german insignia back in WW 1 which was almost a 100 years ago.....WW2 which ended 63 years ago last month used a different cross and the swastika....the swastika by the way appeared in American Indian art..If you look closely at the Indian head symbol used by the Laffeyette Escadrille in WW 1 you can find a swastika in the head dress.....Whats the point...I dunno just some gee whiz info I guess...I hope you can shed the demon that still bothers you...I have some of my own as well...
Now about the plane, size does matter, bigger is better...to a point...if you get the 60 it's easier to see in flight and you have different sized engine to pick from down the road..
Good Flyin to ya
PS....You really need to listen to Adolph Galland.. in one of his last interviews.....what an intellegent insightful man.....he even admits to being on the wrong side...in a round about manner...I guess there are good and bad on both sides in any conflict....

speaking on engine size. do you think a 18cc poulan weed eater motor set up for glow could work on that 60 size stick?

Probably not. The GP Big Stik 60 tends to come out nose heavy with regular glow engines in the recommended sizes. I doubt that you'll be able to get the Poulan as light as a 61 two stroke or 91 four stroke RC engine.

I would do the engine modifications first. Find out what it weighs and what kind of power it makes. Then you might be able to find an appropriate airframe.

I'm interested in the Big Stick 60 (Great Planes) and would like to know if anyone has the dimensions of the firewall. I'm planning to put a Saito FA-100T (Four stroke horizontally opposed twin) on it. The engine doesn't use the horizontal lugs for mounting like you would an OS .46AX, instead it mounts vertically to the firewall using a mount similar to a bell housing in concept.

The holes in the vertical mount at 50 mm apart (width) and 70mm apart (height).

Anyone know if that will fit on the front of the Great Planes Big Stick 60?

Laz
Get Hold of Bridi Old Timer Qarter Scale 80" Big Stik if you still can .
They look good in or out of Deutsche Livery and you have the choice
with a good bit of building .
Jeff Follin ([email protected]) was clearing out balance of Bridi Inventory
and may still have one ,
Alt try Blue Jay Kits with their repro Stik .

Vernon
