where have all the kits gone ???
hi everyone...just a quick question, can you inform me of a site or store that sells airplane kits, not arfs. i cant seem to find them anymore. ive been grounded for about 15 years, sort of voluntarily, and returned to a tower catalog filled with arfs. i like arfs, like that electric reactor bipe or one of the other gp's e performance volt suckers that i will purchase, eventually. but what i am looking for now is a larger ( 1.20- 1.80 size) nitro kit of maybe a yak, one of the extras (not a great planes kit), cap 232, edge 540, katana, or even a pitts python or the like. i have an ultimate bipe, carl g, a 60 sportster, and of course, the trainer from way back, i call him "patches". i built all of these and loved it. my friends have bought arfs which arf beautiful, minus some small defects to many, me the perfectionist, find them annoying. i need to kick back to a nice nitro or gas kit, or two, that i can winter down to. thanks for any leads (only quality kits please)

RE: where have all the kits gone ???
First, throw away the printed Tower catalog and go to the web site. The catalog shows only what the marketing department likes. In addition to Tower, here are a few kit sources. Others will add more.
http://www.sigmfg.com
http://www.balsausa.com
http://www.btemodels.com
http://www.hobby-lobby.com/rcglowpr.htm
http://www.proctor-enterprises.com
http://www.radicalrc.com
http://houseofbalsa.com
Some of these sites have a lot of kits and others only have a few.

RE: where have all the kits gone ???
I know CG still makes most of the kits, as far as aerobats go I dont know of any kits for them execpt the CG Extra 300. If your interested in Warbirds Nick Zirolli,Yellow Aircraft. Try searching on www.google.com. I have the same opinion of ARF's, they have to look right. I usualy strip the covering off and modify them until they look right. Good luck

I have purchased a few kits over the last year that I like .... out of fear that the manufacturer may stop making them. fact is, the ARF's are getting better and more abundant each year and have taken a good part of the market share. Some companies may stop producing a kit (or any item) simply because it is not as profitable for them as it was in the past. Bob

Aerobatic kits. Large scale.
http://www.aerotech-rcmodels.com/Products/kits.html
http://www.carden-aircraft.com/
The following website has TONS of kits. TONS of 'em!! But I will NOT post a link to it. There are some suggestive pictures of bikini clad or topless women, so get the kids out of the room before you open the pages.

Google it.

Ya, But "WHAT ABOUT BOB"????????
Hi, I have went through the same thing. I came back after about the same amount of time. Its like Rip Van what's his name, kind of thing. RCM is gone and that Gordy upstart is going strong, and thats a good thing.
I have keep my plans from all my kits, I guess I can go to scratch building if I can't get a SuperSprotster60 kit anymore.
Good luck, its great to be back.
sticks
PS the for sale areas on this and other sites may have some of the old Kits for sale. These are ones somes of us guys have saved over the years. Price may be high, but after buying balsa they may not be that high.

RE: where have all the kits gone ???
The kits, for all practical purposes, are gone.
If you can find a kit you like (try RC Universe classifieds or E-Bay) get it. If not, buy a set of plans for the bird you want and either cut the parts yourself, or have a "kitcutter" laser cut them for you. The LaserLizard (http://www.laserlizard.com/ ) has a very good reputation for quality work, ontime deliveries and at a fair (or lower) price. I am certain that others can recommend the LaserLizard also if you decide to go that route.

If you can't find a kit, you're not looking.
