Default dowel pins or gussets

I'm changing landing gear from the wing to the fuse and installing plywood inside. What's stronger gussets or pins though the fuse with dowels into the ply? p.s. The sides of the fuse are plywood in a champion 45L ( now you know WHY I'm changing the landing gear).

I would just use some triangle stock between the gear plate and fuse side. Should be plenty strong for a 40 size plane.
