Default New here with question Futaba FP-77uaps PCM 1024 Radio

Hello all

Quick question I was going through some old boxes and found two old RC plans from the old days of flying with my dad.

I have not been involved in RC for a very long time now.

One of the planes I found is a .60 trainer plane top wing the brand slips my mind at this moment.... but is it brand new still in the box never opened so in short I am thinking I may just take a crack at flying again

So my question is I also found a brand new Futaba FP-77uaps PCM 1024 Radio still has the plastic on the screen but I can't find the transmitter and transmitter battery and switch I also only have three servos and when I hook up the charger to the controller the light on the charger does not come on does this mean the battery is fried? Where or can I get my hands on the missing pieces and or a new battery for the controller???

Or maybe its not even worth it is this controller any good????

Thanks

Check to see if the switch is turned on. If it is, the transmitter won't charge.

I think you mean that Receiver is missing. A Futaba FP-77uaps IS a transmitter.

The old Super 7 is a good radio, and more than adequate for you to learn to fly with!

You can get a new battery pack for it here: http://www.maxxprod.com/mpi/mpi-8.html

your radio will work with just about any servo available today, standard Futaba S3004 servos are only $13.00 each at Tower Hobbies.
Any Futaba compatible FM receiver will work with your transmitter. Look on page 23 of the manual for how to switch between FM and PCM

Best of luck, and welcome to the hobby![8D]

Yes, PPM is the same as FM. PCM receivers are expensive, $80.00 and up! FM Receivers can be had for as little as $30.00. You will not be able to tell the difference in flying them.

I'm not sure if the radio is legal in Canada. In the US, we switched to narrow band radios in 1991. If it is narrow band, there will be a gold sticker on the transmitter that looks like this:

Sorry i can see the pic but i just check the back ( fp-tp-fm) 72mhz

so i can use the fm for the trainer plane.. great cheap sounds good to me

so why would i want the PCM for a better plane in the future... i see features like snap rolls l pre programed in the manual??? or mabye a Heli???

I use PCM for all of my helis. There are glitch and interference issues with some helis on FM. I'd rather not have those problems show up on my birds! The 7UAPS would be difficult to set up with today's heli's, most of which have CCPM (Cyclic/collective pitch mixing). The 7U is not capable of this.

I never did understand the "snap roll switch". I found it to be quite useless, as most planes require a delicate touch to get a perfect snap roll. The switch doesn't do as nice of a job as thumbs do.

Is there a gold colored sticker on the transmitter at all?

It should say:
R/CMA RF CHECK

The 1991 sticker is all you need! You're good to go.[8D] And... WOW! I haven't seen a 7U that nice in a long time! I sold mine about 5 years ago. It wasn't anywhere near as pretty as yours.

Well, I'll tell you what I did. I finished and flew the planes my dad left behind. Every one of them was a tribute to him. I have one left to finish for him. It's a 90" Byron Glasair RG. It will be the pinnacle of my 32 years in the model aviation hobby.[8D]

The pic is a real one. I have had a love affair with the Glasair since I was a little kid. I've built a 330 Hp. engine for one over the last few years. Now, I'm looking to buy a Glasair kit or a partially built one in the next year or so... I make my living restoring and maintaining real planes. Models are just my hobby. It's a pretty bad addiction. I've surrounded myself with aircraft nearly every minute of everyday. I even live on an airport and my shop is in my back yard

Wow thats really cool...

Its all in the choice of words. Not addiction. Obsession sounds cleaner.

My Uncle was a mechanic for Air Canada he was one of the top guys there and one of few that could work on the Concord. Now there is a man is has a server addiction…

I'm building both the model and the real one. The model should fly about 150 MPH and the real one cruises about 300 MPH.
