I think the KC one is an architect modeling firm. Slightly different web address.

The one that is Tower Hobbies under another name is still at the next exit on the interstate west of Champaign, IL

Omni models is listed as being in Mahomet IL which is nothing but a cross roads.

Omni is just Tower Hobbies spelled differently. Look at the customer service numbers, they are the same.

Oh, ...

Now see.

I had heard that Omni of Illinois was bought out or became partner with some other firm. Had not heard they were wholey taken over by Tower.

This Omnimodels http://www.omnimodels.com which (like w8ye wrote) is a slight variation of Tower Hobbies (same warehouses, different discount structure, different "free shipping" policy) is still in Illinois.

As far as I know (only in RC since 2001) Omni has always been Tower's partner company.

Are you possibly thinking of Quantum Models? When they disappeared the web site said "moving" for a hort time then it just went away. Quantum sold items from all of the big distributors (Ace, Global, Hobbico, Horizon).

As Carrell has said and to my knowledge, Omni has always been Hobbico and is just a different marketing technique from Tower. At one time Omni was straight laced but anymore they are getting a little more like tower. Omni is actually located in the same facilities as Tower. The Mohomet IL thingy is just a little country post office box out west of town. All the phones ring in at the main location.

Tower plays more marketing games than Carter had little pills and if you figure the odds there are times when you can really get some good deals but you have to be about as devious as they are to get them. Tower may have several different prices for the the same item listed under different stock numbers but unless you ask for the magic stock number you are not going to get the good deal. The lady on the phone will be straight faced and not give you the "hot" stock number either.

When you are going to buy something from Tower, it pays to check Omni too.

Advantage Hobby is more Horizon oriented and it sometimes pays to check with them. Len Sabato worked for Horizon before Advantage Hobby started up.

All these places are located in the Champaign IL area

The guy that started Horizon at one time was a partner in Hobbico. So there is a little bit of connection between all these.

Omni wasn't always under the Hobbico umbrella. Omni used to be owned by the same fellow who started Quantum. After he old Omni he started Quantum.

Quantum was a good place and it disappeared off the face of the earth?

Going back even more years, I sort of remember what Mike was mentioning.

Not as the others are trying to explain.

I did not notice Omni until 1999 and by then it was pretty much the same as it is now.
