ARF that accepts a Zenoah G-26 EI
Any suggestions on ARF's that fit a Zenoah G-26 EI with mounting ease and fly well with that powerplant?
I'm more a Sports Flier. Some 3-D capability would be nice.
Prefer ARF's with split wings that slide onto a wing tube.
Thanks, PartyPooper

RE: ARF that accepts a Zenoah G-26 EI
Zippy,
I'm mostly a Sports Flier with limited 3-D ability. Often I just like to floor the plane to it's highest speed, which is not a good enviroment for a serious 3-D plane with big control surfaces that might vibrate off, after a while. So a low to mid wing ARF that does not require a fast approach on landing.

A lot of the 1/4 scale type airplanes will fly well with the G26i.
The Cub types in particular
But from your reply the Sif Four Star 120 would be a good choice

The Hanger Nine Ultra Stick 120 would be nice if you could find one

party pooper,
Besides the Cub, Stick, and Four Star 120 that w8ye mentioned there are a host of Warbirds that the G26 is well suited for. [link=http://www.kmp.ca/]KMP[/link] has a nice line of Warebirds. Most Extra's, YAK's, Edge's in the 70"-72" wing span will be fine as long as you keep them under 13-14 lbs. They may not 3D very well but they will be fine for sport flying, aerobatics, and those nice high speed passes you like. Take a look at the [link=http://www.wildharerc.com/products/Edge540Extra260/]Wild Hare[/link] and [link=http://aero-works.net/store/detail.aspx?ID=288]Aeroworks[/link] line of 120 size planes.

RE: ARF that accepts a Zenoah G-26 EI
Zippy,
I looked at the Aeroworks 72" yaks as well at WBye's 4 Star 120. All great choices. Naturally I'm nervous about dimension of the firewall being big enough for the bigger mounting plate of the new Zenoah G - 26 I.E. I will contact some retail outlets and see if a sales person will open a box and give me the dimensions at the store before I buy. My local Hobby Shop does not stock these planes. Other than that, do you know of anyone who has sucessfully mounted the G-26 I.E. to a Aeroworks Yak or 300 in the 90 to 120 size?
Thanks in advance.

For a 120 plane intended for a glow engine to to work with a G26 there are changes that have to be made. Like on the Four Star the cowl cheeks are ty[ically cut off.
Some planes will need the firewall moved back etc.
This basic engine design has been around for 20 years or more and some modelers have been adapting planes for a long time

party pooper,
If your worried about the size of the plate on the back of the G26 being to large for the engine box, you can remove it and use stand-offs if you like or use the three bolt pattern once the plate is removed. I used a Brillelli 26cc on the GSP Giles 202 that weighed in at about 12.5-13.0 lbs. It flew very well and I had no issues with weight, CG, prop clearance. Before I buy a plane and engine combo I always look at the online manual if available or research and get the distance from the fire wall to the prop hub and then look at the engine I want to use and see if any mods are needed. This saves a lot of frustrating moments in building. You can see from the pic that with a 26cc there is plenty of room on the engine box. I have a Sig Rascal 110 with a G26/EI from Ralph at RC Ignition and it fits fine on the firewall. This is about as narrow as I have seen trying to fit a G26.

RE: ARF that accepts a Zenoah G-26 EI
Zippy,
That Giles 202 maybe the plane I'm looking for. Nice looking plane you have there. My quess is it will fly similar to a 300-E and from the photos.
1. it looks like you mounted the G -26 IE with the bigger 4 bolt backing plate with room to spare - correct?
2. Does the Giles come with ailerons / elevator/ rudder pre hinged and glued?
3. With the throws on the control surfaces limited to less twitchy sports flying - Will that Giles take my, all too often, full speed fly bys with strong servoes and CA hinges without fluttering itself apart or is it more for slower speed aerobatics? I may go Robart Hinges if I have the time.
4. Did the length of the Cowl simply come out just right for the thrust washer and prop area with no modifications - no spacers? ( I'm not worried about the cut outs for muffler ect just the prop area to the relationship to the 'front' of the cowl)
Would you call this plane a fast approach lander or will it slowly decend for a shorter field landing?
****** This might be key - so I get a proven sucess for my G-26 - what manufacturer made your Giles 202 ? *******

party pooper,
The engine on the Giles 202 is a Brillelli 26cc but is was a flat plate mount similar to the G26. I have had so many planes I can't remember where it came from but the Giles 202 can be purchased at a few places like GSP but [link=http://www.nitroplanes.com/cmpgi2021407.html]Nitro Models[/link] comes to mind. The control surfaces are not pre-hinged. CA hinges are supplied but I bought a thicker sheet and cut my own. I use to love making high speed inverted low passes over the runway and the plane held up just fine. I used Hitec 6635 Digitals and a 645MG on the rudder. I also used 4-40 control rods all around. If I remember correctly I bolted the engine directly to the engine box and it was just the right length. The Giles 202 will land pretty slow with no bad habbits. I did like just about everyone else that was building one at the time swap out the CF landing gear. I bought the Chip Hyde Cap X landing gear and modiflied it and it came out great.
