I went through the same thing with the last change over. Kept the old stuff for quite awhile, then closed my eyes and tossed them.

I strip out useable parts like switches and pots for other projects. You can make a nice servo testor using one of the stick assemblies with pots, an LM556 and a handful of resistors and capacitors.

Give a new guy a great deal on a radio

A really bad idea since most that is being pitched is wideband and if it is narrowband by they time the spend enough on it to make it work then they have spent more money than if they had bought new more capable system, thats even if they happen to buy all the right stuff to avoid pitfalls and frustration. Usually there are a number of uncompatible purchases along the way.

Left hand corner of my closet in my shop, toss and forget until I need a Buddy box and some of them are newer units but not computer radios so they are still pretty good but nothing that I use. Once in a while I will set up an old trainer with one too for students that have soloed so they can fly without having to use my radio. I have one friend that picks up 4 to 6 ch radios and sets up his fun planes with them, each plane has it's own radio. Old doesn't mean useless.

I just bought an Airtronics RDS8000 2.4 Ghz rig. Therefore, I tried to sell my Airtronics VG6000 (4 years old) and my RD6000 (2 years old) on Ebay. Typically they are let go at less then $50.00. Mine included charger and three receivers. No takers at $75.00. So, I gave the VG6000 to my son, the RD6000 I may hold onto for a while; or, keep as a buddy box.

Hey I remember those. Wish I still had my first radio. As for the Old transmitter it never hurts to have a spare around for setting up something, or just for parts.

You can't belive how you can turn a newbies day around when you tell him you can have this old radio.....I've seen it done......Most people toss them or throw them is a dusty cave called the closet. But if it still works, pass it down....I have tons of respect for the people who do that.....Just a real cool thing to do....Some day I will pass my 9C down to a newbie...Have to find a 9ZAP first...My 2 cents

That's what I did with my 4ch Conquest. A co-worker's brother needed a radio for some foamies he was building and didn't have any money to spend. I sold the Tx, Rx and charger to my co-worker for what I could get on the bay.(not much), and he gave to his his brother. To hear his response, you would have thought it was gold!

I would have kept flying my 72 mhz equipment, except the guys in my club are pretty cavalier about posting their frequencies. I'm not as active a flyer as these guys and while they know each other's frequencies, they don't know mine or the other less active flyersin the club's freqs! So, I felt it was just a matter of time before someone shot someone down; or, got shot down and I didn't want it to be me! So I upgraded!

If your in a club that pays attention to frequency control, I don't think there is as big a reason to jump to 2.4 Ghz.

I'm hip and just received a new Nitro Hydro. I need a basic radio. Futaba 2Ch would be fine.

I had my tx plugged into my field box getting charged. I had been setting up a plane, was having hell with the throttle and ran the battery way down. I was ready to run the motor to check the throttle, plugged my electric starter into the box also and just spun it by nature when it wound down it surged the system, blew the fuse in my radio Jr 421 EX. after I replaced the fuse the screen would show dead tx battery regardless of the charge. I was told that the internal battery had died . so i tried to replace that myself. without any luck. couldn't get it soldered. BUT I don't think it would have helped anyway!!!!
