RE: Torque Starters Batteries
I have just installed new batteries in my starter. I used two, two cell 1800mah Lithium batteries wired together to give 14.8v. I used a deans plug as the connector which is compatible with the charger.
Lithium batteries can be purchased almost from any hobby supplier. I purchased mine on line from "Hobby City". The price was $12.95/battery, $26.00 total + shipping.
See picture.

I use two car packs wired together for 14.4 volts. Starts my 1.20 just fine.

RE: Torque Starters Batteries
Finer Edge manufacturing makes an adapter that fits on Sullivan and a couple of other makes of starters...this adapter allows you to use an 18 volt Makita drill motor battery.....look up their web site for the correct battery.....the down side to this is the battery and charger are a couple of hundred bucks new.....so what I did was go around to tool rental places and ask if they had those drill motors that were broken....low and behold I walked away with 2 batteries and a charger for nuttin......
Now this thing is awesome...I can spin an os 160 or a 26CC gaser
Hope this helps

RE: Torque Starters Batteries
I use the 12 volt gel cell battery sold at the hobby shop to drive my Sullivan starter. I charge it about every 2 months and I fly about 2 days per week year round. The battery last 6-10 years. Very reasonable price. To eliminate the possibility of connecting the starter backward, and reduce voltage drop, I cut off the spring clips from the starter wire and soldered on some permanent connectors so the starter is always connected to the battery. I have a fuse and an ON/OFF switch in one leg of the starter wiring.
