RE: MOKI made in Hungary history
I see you list your home as Rochester NY.....but refer to yourself as a Hungarian...Odd which is it...are you an American or a Hungarian? If you want to be a Hungarian that's fine, I hope you enjoy your visit here....and tell your fellow Hungarians they are welcome to visit on your return to your home.....
As far as how useful the F-16 is compaired to toys.....never seen a toy keep you free......It is alot better to have the strentgh and ability to defend yourself and not need it...than to need to defend yourself and not have the ability

I guess in the cold war while the russians and americans were building the real deal that they hardly used for anything useful, we hungarians were building the toy stuff, that were probably more useful for the public, then any of the F-16's.

Nah I wasn't offended at all....just pointing out that a strong defense is an absolute requirement......and you can always return to your home where ever that is...it is an American right.....

I even know a guy that owns and uses a MOKI.

Hm now I wonder if that might be you GB, Naw couldn,t be cause you got a MDS too
All kidding aside I don,t own one but have flown several 1.8's on other folks airplanes I tested and they seem like a fine engines.
I did just snookered by a gentleman at our recent swapment and missed out on a new 2. something Moki. shoot I teach this guy to fly and he out bids me in bid war' Oh man.
I also must say I agree with jetmech and found the original post somewhat politically arrogant.

Nope, not me. I really do have a friend I fly with that has one of the big suckers, 2.10?? Bigger?? Sucks FAI like there is no tomorrow. If it was mine it would run a lot better though!! Dang thing hauls a big Bipe around that should have a 40 or 50 cc gasser hauling it. Truth is he is the only MOKI pilot I know. It burns so much fuel that my friend wants me to brew up some FAI for him, The one plane is costing him a pile of cash to operate. I do have one of those ST 2300s that I don't use, it too never met a fuel can it didn't fall in love with!!!

one thought for the original poster is you don't have the freedom of speech on this site. there are rules to follow. i own a moki 2.10. of course it uses more fuel than a gas burner but fai fuel is pretty cheap. and nothing short of a radial sounds better than a big moki. i also still get to smell burning castor oil.

I gave it to one of my other old students, it's back in my shop again??
Could the giant Decathlon be a bad flying plane??? I didn't think so when I gave it away.[:-]

Ya, Big glows are a hard sale once the fellows realize how expensive they can be. Currently my biggest glow is a Webra 120 with an OS 7 series carburator. The darn thing just works so good on a Lite Stick that I don,t care anymore about the fuel its such a delightful engine.
Must admit I could learn to love a 1.8 Moki also.
Look at it this way that way I would have make two trips a year up there to Las Vegas to tank up on fuel in stead of just once and that means two trips a year to your favorite hobby shop also.

Your heli is way up on rpms compared to a plane too. I fly YS engines and none of them have ever had a diet of anything other then 15% and are very easy on fuel, even the 1.40 sport. Tried 30% and didn't see any great change in anything except a smoother idle so it wasn't worth the added cost to me. My YS 1.20NC drinks more fuel them my YS 1.10s but nothing like the big ST or Moki. Bigger glow engines drink a lot of high dollar glow fuel, just a fact of life. For the most part when a plane needs anything bigger then a 1.20 four stroke I go to gas, cheaper engines and way cheaper to operate.
Other then the amount of fuel used in the big glow engines I like them well enough but they are what they are and they are fuel hogs. Just a fact of life. There are better ways to go these days but a lot of people are comfortable with what they know and they know glow engines. Big gassers are easier though. Just another little fact. You can't compare a heli to a plane either, apples and oranges.

i fail to see how fuel cost is such a big deal in a hobby where we spend thousands on planes, radios, servos, engines, dedicated trailers etc. $17 for a gallon of fai fuel just doesn't affect my wallet that much.

I have both the Moki 1.8 and 2.10 and love them both. I think you guys are a bit off on the fuel consumption deal. My YS 91 in my Vigor helicopter is a lot worst and needs 30% nitro on top of that. At least I can run the Moki's on 5%.

Good lord can,t have a bit simple light hearted conversation with Grey beard without some one
jumping all over you.
If you want to call someone "off" for saying "Its entertaining watching those big glow engines empty the tank" Then so be it. Its entertaining wheather its someone elses aircraft or mine (its entertaining watching my OS BGX 2.13 empty the tank too) and by the way I say the same thing as I watch the Powermaster 60% go away on a few of my competion aircraft and lets see the last case I picked up in Vegas cost 59 bucks a gallon.
And Dhal22 Good for you that you are a Glow power power fan and
Pardon me if I prefer the old school name for a type model engine but guess what with somewhere around just under 50 plug and play aircraft in my hanger and all but three electrics are glow, I guess that makes me a glow fan too.

getting off the subject a bit but what about the gas smell inside your suv, van or truck, especially if you have a spill. having said that gas power will be unavoidable as my planes get bigger. i just like my moki at the moment and i've always loved the smell of glow fuel.

I have no problem with gas smell since this is my only engine that uses gasolene and i carry the fuel for it in a nice tightly sealed little half pint can:

Well, I have never had a gas spill in my van but the planes alone do always have the smell for a few days after flying. I did have a gas can do the slide and tip thing a few weeks ago as I was pulling back onto the hiway. I just pulled over, got out of the van to get the can back to it's spot and the van door closed and the electric locks decided to lock themselves.[>:] Middle of the desert, van running, air conditioner running full blast and me on the outside loking in. Yes, the cell phone was inside on the seat!![&o] You think someone will stop to help you these days!! Not a chance. I finally got a fellow on a bike to stop and he let me use his cell phone to call my wife. It took about an hour to get back into my van, at least it was nice and cool in there buy that time. The gas can didn't leak either!!
So you see, flying gassers can be hazardous to your well being.
And I'm on a very fixed income and if I wanted to start flying today I couldn't. I scratch build most of my planes and have big gobs of equipment I have collected over the years so I can keep building and flying. Fuel prices tend to keep my flying days way down compared to what they used to be so using the big glow engines isn't an option for me. Only about half the guys at my field are in the work force right now for a number of reasons so I don't feel like the Lone Ranger.
John, can I have some of your old worn out fuel???[&o]
