GP Extra 300 SP engine
I just finished my great planes extra 300 sp and am going to pick up an engine tomorrow. Will an OS. 55AX with a bisson pitts muffler make this aircraft look and be well powered? I was looking at a .91 os 4 stroke but they are so expensive. I love the 4 stroke but will this aircraft be fine with the 2 stroke and a pitts muffler? Also, is that muffler just for looks or do it add power and better sound?

RE: GP Extra 300 SP engine
get a ax55, magnum 52xls, or gms.47 are good engines. the magnum has more speed, the ax has more torque. if you want to do 3d get a 13x4 and a ax55. if not the magnum is your engine. if you are on a budget the gms.47 has more power than a ax46, but less than the magnum. it is very reliable and a good engine. it would work fine

YS-.63 4-stroke in mine. It is an excellent match.
Your .55 will be a near ideal 2-stroke in my opinion. It should fly the plane great. Ran that engine with a Slimline pitts in my Revolver and it was outstanding. I say go for it.
The main advantage of the pitts muffler is that it fits in the cowl better than a stock muffler with the side mounted engine. I also tend to think they sound better. Some may argue that there is a power loss but, if there is, it is so small most of us will never notice.
You might want to save the rudder servo installation for last. That way you can determine where to place it to achieve the best balance with that engine.
