Default Aileron set up

I put a new radio in my alpha 40 trainer and for some reason cant seem to make sense of which way the ailerons should move. The radio had another channel reversed so I want to make sure I have them right. The ailerons counteract each other so when the left one points down the right points up. So if I move the stick left, the left aileron should go down and the right should go up?

Thanks.

Nope, If you move the stick to the left the airplane should roll to the left which will require the left aileron to move up.

Not quite. Move the stick right, and the right aileron goes up and left down. Move the stick left, and the left aileron goes up and right down...

The easy way to remember it or visualize it is this:

If the right aileron goes up, the air flowing over the right wing/aileron will be deflected up, this will push the right wing down. This makes the plane roll to the right. Same for elevator and rudder. Up elevator will force the airflow over the tail up, which pushes the tail down. Pushing the tail down makes the plane climb up. Right rudder pushes the tail to the left, which turns the plane to the right.

Hope that helps. That's the way I keep things straight.

The easiest method I ever heard is the "Thumbs Up" method:

Stand behind the plane.

Move the aileron stick (with your thumb) to the right.

The right aileron goes UP

Whichever way your "Thumb" moves the stick, that aileron goes "UP"

THUMB = UP

Thumbs up!

right aileron up you kill lift on the right wing....like a spoiler......left aileron down increases lift on the left wing...like a flap...and you roll right.....opposite rolling left....
