Default 3s Balance lead on a 2s Pack?

This may be a stupid question, but I couldn't find any info in a search, so here it goes....

I ordered a bunch of cells to make 2s packs for indoor planes. However, I don't have any 2s balance leads, just some 3s ones I saved from packs gone bad. Does anyone know if its possible to wire the 3s lead onto the 2s pack, clipping the unused lead, so that it will work with the Equinox balancing unit?

I assume that since there are different adapters for the different cell amounts, that the balancer only looks for how many cells its connected to, and for the connector, its just about having them in the proper order. But I thought I would ask, before I go rewiring a battery to test it...
