No you don't, just make sure the pump will pump to 100 lbs. I did just that and the bike pump was just easier to use.

What you must use is the appropriate filler valve adapter on the pump or air supply for whichever retract system you are using

In addition on a bicycle or automotive pump you must remove the Schrader valve and use the appropriate adapter for your system in its place.

I have one of those little 12volt pumps that was removed from one of those car jump start systems, works great. I had one of the pressure gauges off of one of the Dubro hand pumps built into mine. I just looked at it the other day and it looks like the gauge got broken during my move. I will have to replace it if I build another plane with retracts. I picked up the starter system at a garage sale and the gauge from an old broken pump. Total cost, about $5.00.

Ok Now I am having a small problem I have the retract system installed and ready to use.
But now I cant seem to get enough pressure in the tank. I am using a small compressor it is set to max at 100psi. My air retract system uses a one way valve for filling the tank and I cant seem to get enough pressure in it if I put the gear down while filling the tank it works and also for fear up. What am I doing wrong I installed the system as instructed no leaks any where and no blocks .
help!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you.

I use a auto pump with Lipo for power(see photo), the hand pump is OK to ues, as said you need one of the high pressure versions, as to the problem with the tank issue you have a blockage some where in the T peice to the tank or in the fitting in the tank.

Cheers

Use a wheel collar on the tubing and wind in the grub screw to regulate the speed, use it on the UP line only. Smooth out the end of the grub screw so it wont cut the tubing.

I had a lot of the filler valves that came with the retract systems leak after a while, I now make my own out of car tyre valves.

Cheers

well it turns out the filler valve is ok but one of the T Connectors has a very slow leak and as the pressure gets lower to a point where it is too low then the filler valve will release and let it empty. as this is my first air retract system I am not sure about weather or not to glue the air lines into the T Connectors. this is a new system and I don't want to have to send it back just for a few T connectors and also I am trying to get my plane ready for a hobby show on Saturday. Any idea's would be a great help
Thank you
hyflyer9.

I make my own T conectors(see Photo), just try another or get some of a different brand, with air retracts you will get air leaks, just a part of modelling.

I picked up some used tubless tyre valves at a tyre store for nix, used a wire buff to remove the rubber, then machined up a piece of brass to make a nipple and soldered it in the valve body, then fitted a new valve. If it starts to leak just replace the valve. With some valve bodies, you could make the tube nipple out of short pieces of brass tube.

Cheers

Sure, but it is kind of hard to lug the bigcompressor out to the flying field.
Seriously, the on board tank for the retracts does not have much volume, and should be filled every flight.
