Default fox 4.2 engine problem

My fox 4.2 gas engine runs fine on the ground(idle an full trodle) but as soon as it gets airborn it cuts out and miss's and then when throdle back for aproch it will die every time. When i first got it i try'd 93 octane then 100 octane av fuel that did'nt work so we went with 110 race car blue fuel after that it ran fine. But now it is back to doing it again.

Gas oil mixture or spark plug. Check your color on the tip of your spark plug it should be a brown color. White to lean, black to rich.

It's probably air flow over the carb sensing port. Is it cowled?

Thanks Live Wire this could be some or all the problem.I'm going to get a new spark plug before the weekend,You would'nt happen to know what would be the hottest plug for a 4.2 motor and what the gap would be. Thanks...David

You want to use the plug, and the plug gap that is recommended you will find out that different plugs will tell you to use different settings. If you go to hot you can burn a hole in the top of your piston. I just read the plug to tell me what I need to do. You run the engine to full throttle and kill it with the throttle wide open, pull the plug and read the color.

You might want to go over to the Gas Engine Forum
