Default Fueling valve location?

Hi,

I would like to install a Du-Bro Kwik-Fill fueling vavle for my gasser but am not sure if it is ok to install it in the location I have chosen. Do I need to make sure it is level with the carb?

Thanks,

John

No. Install it wherever it is convenient to get at, and where you can attach the internal lines easily.

Default Fueling valve location?

Ok,

Well, just wanna make sure of things with u experts using pictures:

Basically, the fueling valve will be about 2 - 3 inches above the engine's carb. The valve is located way back in the fuse in a scale custom hatch I built from scratch. I have located the retract filler and electronics on/off parts in here as well. Makes for clean lines!

Is it a problem having it so far back and thus having a very long line to the carb and fuel tank?

Also, is it ok to have the fuel tank facing backward (i.e. clunk is closer to firewall)

Thanks!

J

That would be a bad idea. On a long up-line you will most likely run out of gas in the line and we know what happens after that!

Default Bad Idea

Placing your tank backwards doesn't sound like a good idea to me. The way I see it, most planes fly around in a nose high attitude. Placing your tank backwards, and thus the clunk at the forward part of it, you would find yourself starving the engine of gas when there is still fuel in the tank.
Im sure some one else will chime in on this too.

Ok, so I'll keep the tank facing forward like normal

Do I really need to worry about the length of the line though?

As long as pressure is kept, there should be no problem...?

Also, if not in its current position,

Where would you guys place it?

Thanks!

Default try a three line system?

I wouldn't have the tank to carb line so long under any circumstances. But I don't see why you couldn't put a fuel dot back there in the back as part of a three-line system. That way the length of the line from the fuel dot to the tank wouldn't be part of the tank-carb line, and you could have a short line going from the tank to the carb. Just do a search for a three-line system or fuel dots and you'll get plenty of info.

The other thing you could do easily is just run the fueling line out the bottom of the cowl on the front along with your vent lines for the gas engine. That would be easy I suppose, and you wouldn't have gasoline near your switches and electronic components.

Perhaps others with more experience might shed more light.

Default Fueling valve location?

Hmmmm....been thinking hard about this and here is what I have come up with:

Plug the line that would lead to the carb from the filler. That way, I can still use the filling line leading to the tank in the tank's third hole (would need to be drilled but the stopper does allow for this.) I would then attach a line from to the carb from the tank and a vent line like I would normally do.

Make any sense?

Thanks!

That's referred to as a three-line system as Waagbuck mentioned. I usually use three lines, and use a fuel dot on the fill line. (I don't like the fuelers, they tend to develop leaks too frequently.)

You should keep the line from the tank to the carb as short as possible, particularly if you don't have a pump on that engine. You'll also want the center of the tank to be level with the barrel of the carburetor.

Default Fueling valve location?

In my Ultra Stick 60, I put the tank on the CG and ran to the carb about 6-8 inches without a pump. It worked great till I got dumb thumbs and put it in on Memorial Day. I wouldn't go much further though. BTW: I was using an OS61FX.

Default Fueling valve location?

Heh heh,

Thanks for the carb alignment tip but even this dolt knows that much at least...if I didn't, I'd crash this 1/5th Spitfire about 5 seconds after takeoff.

The fuel feed line will not be much more than 6" at any rate so all should work well.

Thanks everyone for the input!

Cheers,

J

Default Fueling valve location?

The pump on that engine "might" pump fuel that far but that's a long distance wasting a lot of line. I say go with the three line system too. Don't worry about the 6" cause you have a pumper carb.
Tank on the CG sounds good if you have room.

Default Fueling valve location?

Yep,

I have decided on incorporating the three line system with the fuel valve.

Maybe someone can save me a phone call about the smoke system I plan on installing.

Basically, the muffler pressure nipple attaches to the feed line from the smoke tank, right? But what does the smoke tank's vent line attach to? And for that matter, now that the muffler nipple is attatched to the smoke, what do I attach the gas tank vent to? The engine has a crankcase nipple that is plugged by default but can be made functional. Do I put a "T" into the vent line from the crankcase nipple and attach that to the gas and smoke fuel vent lines?
