Indeed, they are nice pictures!Don't knock the ol' OS 40.LA... it's a simple, humble, light weight motor that'll run on any old fuel and requires zero attention.Totally over powers my GP Cub and great in comp' funflys Limbo Dancer type thing. Those 3003's will be perfect in such planes.Drop the heavy mount and have a ball.Small and light wieght aircraft have a genuine place in everybodies hanger.Enyjoy your purchases.

You got taken... I doubt that you will ever use anything in the box and you will end up putting it out on the street as rubbish.

Anytime someone throws an engine into a $10 sale... it is ABSOLUTELY worthless... don't waste your time.

I think I'm gonna buy something small, maybe the Uproar. I built a little engine stand and cranked up the little 40LA... Not a ton of power but it ran really smooth and felt pretty strong. I have an 11-6 prop on it.

11x6 is probably a little much. Mine really like 11X5 APC's. These work great on just about any 25 size plane, or a .40 size fun fly plane like a Dazzler or the GP profile P-51, they make for a good sport flyer that way. Also work good on things like an Eagle II. I have a .40 fp (very similar) that I've been running since about '91 constantly...still going. There are no bearings to rust on these things and they don't turn a ton of rpms so if you take care of them they last for ever with virtually no maintenance. I have a ton of FP's and one LA, it's basically a newer version of the same thing. Some of my favorite engines. But it is definitely not the same as a .40 sf BB engine. But in the right plane they are great engines. One of my favorite combinations is the .40fp on an old Dynaflite Fun Scale P-51. I have one on a modeltech ".30" size extra 300 with a 9X7 prop, fast, and will climb straight up doing vertical rolls, and these engines are way cheaper than the .25 size BB engines.

So what is the difference if I go down to a 10" prop? Less power?
I have a 10-6, 10-8, 11-6, 11-7.

Tellme if this is right....In an 11-5 prop, the 5 means it will move 5" per rotation at full throttle... an 11-6 would move 6" ???? yes/no?
Does the pitch put to much strain on the little motor?

10x6 standard for that engine. We ran 10x7 on the .46LA's in the fun fly days.Pitch v diameter... simplified: increase one, decrease the other.10x6 - 11x 5 - 12x4 etc... they'll be reving about the same(ish)The former will deliver a sightly higher speed over thrust... the latter slightly higher thrust over speed.Choice depends on application, model weight, design, flying style etc.Regardling a model, you have to try one of the small, lightweight comp' tyle FF like the limbo dancer mentioned earlier.Build it yourself (it'll take a weekend) think light, small tank, small battery, light engine/mount. Just over 3lb! Climbing knive edge spins... yippee.

On the 40LA the 11 x 6 will turn much slower than a 10 x 6, so you get less thrust. Since glow engines develop all their power at high RPM you want the engine screaming for maximum speed. But then, if you want speed you don't go looking for .40 LAs. Something like an 11 x 4 will give you lots of torque and, depending on the airframe, may be a better choice for manuverability.

Nice covering job on the Fun 51. How was the build process? What did you use for covering?

The plane went together over a 2 day weekend, & was straight foreward assembly, nothing out of the ordinary. The covering is Top Flite Monokote with just some stars and bars decals. I take it along to the warbird events & if its too windy to fly the expensive stuff out comes the 51! Its a blast to fly in the wind. I have had several motors on it over the years, ie .46...55 , but seem to come back to the .40 La with an APC 10-6 prop. With flapperons it will loop in under 3-4 plane lengths, and in the wind it will land in under 5'. I currently have Futaba 3004 servos on everything. Its a low cost fun build airplane to have.....Gene
