Non Evolution Engine for Jackal

Im getting a Jackal for my main Christmas gift.. I'll need to cover the engine, retracts etc.

Engine wise.. I have had no luck with the Evolution engines... my Alpha 40 TPS engine ran great for he first day and was nothing but a nightmare after that.. dead sticks, surging when running to full power, power lags, bubbles in the lines... basically the same problems everyone else seems to have.. needless to say I am dropping an OS 46 on the Alpha over Christmas...

So Jackal wise... what would be a good non Evolution motor to install... it seems they push it with the 60NX and the tuned muffler .. I was thinking an OS55 with a Jett Stream muffler, or even an OS61 with a Jett muffler, or getting a Jett 56 / muffler for it..

Anyone have any suggestions/comments?

Thanks, and Merry Christmas!

RE: Non Evolution Engine for Jackal

Those are certainly good choices, albeit expensive onces. The OS engines, from everything I've seen, are the ones that you can trust to be trouble free nearly every time. I have an Evolution too that has given me its share of fits, but it does run well now. The engine I'm sold on for future use though is the Magnum 2 strokes. Mine has been as trouble free as any O.S., so for what they cost I'm hooked.

I am a big OS fan .... have used their engines for many years .... and still do. I did, however, purchase the 60NX for the Jackal because it is lighter and smaller than a comparative OS engine would be (for power). From what I have read about the Jackal, heavier engines up front will require nose weight in the tail. Bob

The OS .55AX weighs in the same as the Evo .60 (without muffler). You might want to look at the new OS .65AX which is also available with some special mufflers from OS.

I was considering the 65AX, but Ive heard wont fit the jackal withiout modding it...
Im going to stick with a 55AX and Jettstream setup...

On a sidenote, is the Evolution tuned pipe the same as the Jettstream muffler.. will it fit the OS 55???

Once you get that engine dialed in with the right prop I bet you'll love it. Good choice.

Check out the Jackal 50 thread. Here is the link below!!

You will find alot of good info there. As for the Evo 60NX with the Jett pipe, it has tons of power. On the test stand with a 11x7 APC prop use for break-end, the top rpm was just around 13,700. After 5 tanks of fuel in the stand, I install a APC 10x7 prop and the rpm hit 18,100!!! I only had one good day to test fly her with the 11x7 prop and both flight was a beast!!! Can not wait for spring to come so I can see what she came do with the 10x8 prop other people are using!!
Merry Xmas
