Xoar prop problem

1 Attachment(s)
I have a question for anyone that has any experience with Xoar props.
I purchased a 16x8 laminated xoar prop at a air show 2 weeks ago and while mounting it on my engine I noticed it was beginning to split at the tip of one blade.
I took the prop off the engine and inspected it to find that it was not a split but was where the prop was laminated together was coming apart...
The split ran the full length of the prop and was only visible on the back of the prop.
Also I saw something that really scared me was that the crack was filled with wood filled to cover the the crack.
I sent a note to xoar along with pictures of what i found on this prop but have not had a response form them yet.
If you are using these props look real close to the dark areas of the wood as it might be a dark colored filler as mine was.
PS. the two logos on the front of the prop were undisturbed indicating the prop was not broken by use but came from the factory this way. And someone had done this and allowed it to pass inspection and be available for public use. as you can see in the photos this is a pretty dangerous prop.

Just a couple more pictures of the prop.
You can see when held in the light you can see the missing wood as the light shines through the wood filler

RE: Xoar prop problem

First time I have seen a bad Xoar prop but I'm sure it happens. The HS I buy them at has them all in a big bin so you have to look through a lot of props to fine the size you want. Some of them have gotten knicked up quite a bit on the edges over time and I don't bother buying any before I inspect them very well. The bin has many makes and sizes, all of then from 16 inches and bigger. That one is an accident looking for a place to happen!!

Never seen or heard anything bad on Xoars.
I have been using them on my 1/5, 1/4 scale warbirds since meeting Steve in Florida 2007.

I order direct as Steve is the Xoar importer and always helps me match the right prop to the engine and type of flying.

Call Steve Thomas directly at "Steves Hanger" his hobby shop in Florida. 407-277-1248.

I'd trust Xoars more than I would the guy you bought the prop from.....I've only had one bad prop that split longwise like that after a flight...it was not a Xoar....I can't remember the brand name ahhh a Hawk prop I think....

Question. Was this bought from some average Joe modeler or a reputable retailer that attended the show?
