Connecting motor to RC-receiver

I'm currently building RC hovercraft but I have encountered a problem. Since I'm very inexperienced with RC I don't exactly know what part I should buy to be able to control the thrust fan remotely.
I got a very cheap RC-set from Futaba called "Futaba Attack II" and it included the handset , a receiver, 2 servos, a crystal. I do also got 2 motors from Mabuchi which I got for free, the motors are called Mabuchi RS-540 SH, those are brushed motors. One of the motors I want to run directly to a battery with just a switch between but the other fan I want to be able to control remotely.
As far as I understand I need something between the motor and the receiver but I'm not 100% sure of what I need.
I would appreciate all the help I can get!

ESC or Electronic Speed Controller.
It has a plug for the battery on one side, 2 wires (brushed motor) or 3 wire (brushless motor) for the motor, and a lead that plugs into your receiver throttle channel.

You'd need to know how many cells, how many amps you expect to draw, and if your motor is brushed or brushless to start.

Thank you for the quick reply.
The motor I got is brushed and the batteries I wanted to use are just normal Alkaline batteries as my budget doesn't allow me to buy better ones.
Do you or anyone else think that this(http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=6468) ESC will work with my batteries and my motor?

Yes that ESC should be fine; max voltage is 12 v, 30 amps , the motor max is 9.6  and 13 amps.  The ESC plugs into your receiver throtle plug. You will have to solder conectors for your battery pack. The battery pack should be a 8s - 10s.  Be carefull with the 10s (12v) as the motor is rated for 9.6 volts.
