dubro remote igniter probs
hello all ,having probs with dubro remote glow igniter. i have checked continuity between pos and neg. they are good. voltage is 1.25 with hotshot 2 plugged into remote port at glow plug terminal end. yet the glow plug doesnot light up. so i put glow plug directly onto hotshot and sure enough it glows. thought maybe voltage drop through wire excessive but voltage shows 1.25 at glow plug. any ideas on why this is happening. any help appriciated. thanks andrew wisc.

RE: dubro remote igniter probs
Not enough voltage for that plug. Most plugs need 2 volts.

1.5 volts is about the norm, when we used dry cell batteries to start our engines 1.5 was what we bought. The remote requires more juice the farther away the wires so you may want to charge up your glow igniter then try it. When my driver was down on voltage my driver wouldn't light up the plug either, that's pretty normal. When it happened I would use my power panel for power.

RE: dubro remote igniter probs
thanks for your replies. i have shortened up the wires and am charging hot shot although it was charged with wall wart overnight. but makes sence. i could just go direct to plug with hotshot but difficult to remove from underneath. i like my fingers.

RE: dubro remote igniter probs
sometime the little clamp thing that goes onto the plug doesn't make a good contact. Also, make sure the negative terminal lead is attached directly to the engine somewhere. I have also seen where the glow-ignitor doesn't make good contact with the remote attachment point, or it was just bad from the beginning.

Make sure your ground is clean and that you have good contact on the plugs center post as mentioned above

I tried to post a couple of photos of the system I make up for my own remote glow drivers. I buy the mono phone jacks at radio Shack, male and female. I use the {I think} Cermark glow plug clips, they have one for two strokes and one for four strokes. The little female jack is very hard to see when mounted on the plane. Very easy system to make and it doesn't fall apart like the store bought units. I can also make up three of them for the price of one you buy. Wall warts say you can charge over night but 24 hours is a lot better if it's a new glow stick.
