Breaking in engine for a pusher prop airplane.

I am going to be breaking in an engine to use on a pusher prop airplane. Should I do anything different for the break in period; i.e. break it in with a normal propellor than switch over to a pusher prop? What should I consider with the use of a perry fuel pump during breakin?

nothing different IMHO...but do watch out on the props some manufactuers put the info on the front of the prop some on the back of the prop....be sure to look at the prop blade before installing the prop......

Hi Jim_Purcha
I have had many pusher prop planes. A pusher prop engine WILL overheat when running on the ground. For adjusting the engine, I always put on a standard prop of the same pitch and diameter. Then I change to the pusher prop and take off. I try to take off withing 30 seconds of engine start to prevent overheating. Please understand that an overheated engine cannot be properly adjusted. The fuel can boil in the carburetor and screw up the adjustment.

Ditto everything Villa said.

Villa nailed it. I have also seen a small cordless leaf blower used when fine tuning. Not recommended for break in though. One other thing if this is you first pusher. Beware of the pusher prop when tuning. The needle is now by the LE edge of the prop.

Yea I have used a big floor fan for ground cooling before also with the pusher prop on.

If plane is flown from dirt runway buy extra props. The front tire will kick up pebbles that will blast the prop.
