dropping candy?
 

I am thinking about making a candy drop area on an older trainer, and making the drop compartment is easy enough. Is there any easy way to slow the candy down? I know you don't want to drop on kids, but I think it would be neat if they could catch it while the candy is coming down.

Sure all you gotta do is build about 250 tiny parachutes and install one each on each piece of candy. Guess I'd just let 'er drop. We always held the kids back until all the candy had hit the ground and then turned 'em loose to kill & maim each other!

Just tape a piece of crepe paper or toilet tissue on each one.

DON'T drop it on the kids !!!!! You are looking for a law suit . In this day and age if a kid gets a bruise you are going to court. Besides you don't want to take a chance of hurting a kid.

Of all the candy drops I've made and it's a few, we always held the kids until the plane passed in front of us, then get the plane up to a safe altitude in a holding pattern . That way we could control the whole game and be in position to dump the plane in an emergency.

One of the things I learned about dropping is to fly fairly low and slow ( about 30 ' ) and start the drop about 1/3 the way down the strip. If you drop from to high, you will probably miss your target and if you start the drop to soon you will probably dump the whole load short of the target. Have Fun and ENJOY !!! RED

Ok then, I won't try to do a slow drop of the candy, I have not done it yet, but I think it would be fun. What do you think would be the best candy to drop? I wonder if I could glue small wings onto the bottom of sucker sticks so they would spin on the way down ;)

I have a kadet senior that my son does not have much interest in flying yet (he is 8) but I would like to try to make it a little more interesting and or for his cub scout group.

It was inevitable that this topic would drift to WKRP in Cincinnati:D Aw heck and here I thought Les Nesman threw out 'frozen' Turkeys?

I For sure know that ever once and a while one of my airplanes will fly like a frozen turkey. But then, I am not Johnny Fevor:D

Some years back there was a published design for a droppable RC bird in one of the mags and at a large fly in at Sedona someone tryed to fly it with tons of people. It was dropped almost overhead of the crowd line and it did a graceful split S with a vertical dive clear through the rood of a motorhome in the parking lot. Hmmm that beak served as a perfect shaped charge armor pierceing head, perfect for tin roofs;)

Oh Man back to the subject Buckner! OK its not the 'times or the sue happy evironment it is simply 'Kids'. Don,t mess with the kids that is common sense. Sure do all you can to help or encourage them but never do anything even remotely considered a risk.

Minereefer There is no way I would ever drop anything on a group of kids no matter what ribbons, parachutes whatever. That is just asking for trouble.

Ya you know I guess times have changed a bit since the legendary Candy Bomber of the Berlin Airlift who flew a C-54.

It is too bad we probably won't be able to watch that show again, I heard that most of the problem is paying for the rights to all the music that was played during the show, I guess the music industry wants some money for every old song that was played. :eek:

No that was before my time. My time in service was in the early sixties.
