Bushing In Wheel OK?
If I drill out my wheel hub and insert a piece of brass tubing, would the vibration of a running engine cause RF noise?
This would be a steel axle with a brass bushing about .005 bigger than thew axle. Greg |
I have done it many times. worked well for me

Yes indeed this was and still is a very common practice. I have dozens of ariplanes with many sizes of brass tubes as bushing.
As far as causing stray RF, yes of couse anything consisting of metal that can vibrate may induce RF but the chance of this presenting a problem is almost nil. Long ago with the old AM and even the FM radios stray RF could be a problem but it was not from wheel axles but almost always from metal clevis on metal throttle arms. Now with modern 2.4 system this even further remote. John:cool: |
+ one more who has used brass tubing to bush wheel hubs without any problems. I have also done one or two with plastic tubing when the sizes were right.

Thanks a lot to all who posted here.
I have a 50 cc Yak that had good tires, but the hole in the wheel was all wallowed out. This fix can save me about $11.00 and a weekend of flying.. Greg |
Many happy flights wearing those old tires out Greg:)
