I used a very simple non smart 12 volt 5 amp battery charger feeding into an old 12 volt battery. This drove a 40 inch bow with no trouble.

I established the length by varying the wire length and seeing what cut well.

I use an Astroflight 110d charger so I can precisely control the heat. You can buy them for peanuts at swap meets and online auctions. They have a test/diagnostic mode which turns them into a current adjustable power supply. Perfect for hot wire cutting.
