homemade starter...

I am starting in the cool R/C hobbie. The problem is that I am on a low budget :eek::eek:[&o], so I am trying to do homemade thins so save some money.

I started doing my cheap homemade starter. I used old parts that were laying around, so it was free :D:D.

I used an old small box, 12v 1.2ah lead-acid battery, a high-torque small DC motor connected to a "doorstop", and a push-button.

I don't have the plane yet, so can't test it out. Do you think it will work?

Give me your ideas!

Thanks!;)

What's the doorstop for? Have you put it together? Sounds interesting! Can you photograph it and let us see what you've done? [&:]

I am not english so I don't talk very well. I don't know how to call it, but its the part that connects to the spinner. I'll try to post photos!

I think the doorstop is one of those cup-shaped rubber ones. Probably using it to grip the spinner. Sounds like you used some ingenuity here. Modelers are the smartest people on the planet. Well... most of them. :D

ripzone,
It sounds as though you have plenty of ambition, that's a good thing in this hobby. If your homemade starter works out that's great, but you really don't need an electric starter if it doesn't. Make a chicken stick from a piece of old broomstick or something similar and round the ends off. Flip starting the engine isn't hard once it's tuned correctly.

ripzone,
Welcome to RCU! Hope you're able to get the plane soon.

Sounds like your starter will work fine, as long as the motor has enough torque. Good job. ;)
