gas take placement

i just bought a used Magnum XL 61 from a friend. It has never ran that well. But now it will not run at all. The engine is inverted and i know 4 strokes are more difficult in that position. My question is how important is it that the tank be lower than the needle valve? it's pretty close but it is higher. Should I consider this part of the problem. The engine is just not sucking fuel. The tank is airtight and all the engine bolts are tight. could this be part of it?
thanks

Doubtful - As long as it's close, it should work.

Remember, when the tank is near full the level is above the carb, and when it's near empty, it's below the carb. So as long as you're in the ballpark, it should work.

Try flipping the plane upside-down and see if it starts.

Four stroke engines have less fuel draw than two stroke engines. Tank placement is VERY improtant. Also try using an OS Type "F" plug. It has helped fix more 4 stroke problems than you can imagine. Pricey, but worth it.

Also to note is that the early Magnum 4 strokes were sometimes a little erratic in their peformance. Starting the engine right side up is good advice.

Most of my 4s's are inverted, only difference I see is not as low an rpm,my tanks are centered to 3/8"below the spraybar, above the spray bar floods them a little more, also the 0S f plug is the only way to go,check the valve clearence since it's a used engine, that cures most tempermental problems with a 4s.;)
