After Dying Canopy?

I have heard about dying a canopy in rit dye, using water at about 140 degrees, testing a piece to make sure the dye takes. What I have not heard is what you do after you remove the canopy from the dye pot. Do you just let it drip dry? Do you rinse it off with clean water? Do you wipe it dry?
Your experience and help will be appreciated Al

I generally dry it right away with paper towels.....outside in the garage! Be sure that you don't get the canopy hung up when plunging it into the dye or you might get a line with a different tint. A couple tablespoons of vinegar will turn the canopy quite dark, but it lightens up over time.

If you want a smoked canopy don't use straight black Rite dye....mix it with dark blue....at least half and half. Otherwise you will wind up with a brown looking canopy. Why, I don't know.

Be sure that your water's temperature has stabilized throughout. I ruined a canopy once because it was hotter down in the bottom that towards the top where I only did a quick check with a candy thermometer.

Did I mention, only do this in the garage!

Hey GarySS,
Can I assume you might have discolored some carpeting (or other flooring) in your house at one time? (Do it in the garage)
Please share your story!

Well, I am innocent this time.......no accidents. But I have had accidents in the garage, thinking at the same time what would she have done to me if I HAD BEEN IN THE KITCHEN! That dye is nasty.
