PVC & CA
I have just constructed a frame using 1/2 inch PVC for transporting and storing my new plane.
Currently it is only dry fitted together. I would prefer not to take it apart to glue it as the working time is so short getting it back together square can be difficult. I was thinking of using thin CA. I am reasonably sure it will work but I am not sure of its wicking ability. Has anyone tried this? What were your results? Thanks, KW_Counter |
RE: PVC & CA
It will probably work fine if you get enough of it in there. Suggest you scuff the surfaces to be joined with sand paper, say 220 to help with adhesion. I've used medium CA with good results on a smaller crutch set up for my flight box. [&:]

RE: PVC & CA
We use thin CA to glue PVC to Coroplast for making "SPAD" combat models. Works fine.
The PVC does need to be sanded or buffed with a DRY green scrubbing pad to clean it or the CA does not stick. (I think there's an oil residue or something on the PVC from the manufacturing process) |
RE: PVC & CA
Well, I sacrificed a perfectly good elbow and some scrap pipe.
I didn't clean them before assembly. Put some thin CA around the joint. Used two pairs of pliers and tried to twist them apart. I lost the joint won. I guess it wicks in OK. KW_Counter |
