How and where do you store your planes when they are not in use? I realize that these planes are not small so I was just wondering how do you all store your planes when you are not flying them?

Garbage bags, on the floor in pieces, in the top of that #$%#% tree at the field...

...it's got some good ideas. I kinda like the stackable "X"s made of PVC...

I have about 14 of them put together lining a room in my shop, and a ton others on adjustable shelves. Gets to be a pain when you get too many big ones. I gotta move some out or crash them. [X(]

I made brackets to hang mine on the wall by the main gear. They are intact and out of the way.

I have two methods:

Coat hangers (Heavy duty) suspended from Garage ceiling

Rack made from 2x2's and dowels screwed to the wall

I use one of the DuBro wall racks, but make sure to use some foam pipe insulation over the thin metal posts to avoid them digging into your plane's surfaces. I have used string to hang them from the garage ceiling as well, but this was a pain for removal and re-hanging. I need to come up with a wood or pvc hanger to mount from garage ceiling for a couple planes that are too large to bring in the house. Ideally, you should keep them indoors to avoid exposure to temp and humidity extremes (like we have in MI), but if you don't have much room, you do what you gotta do!

I have this thing I call a "house" that has places to store planes called "floors" and "tables."

try the living room , dinning room, bedrooms. lots of room from the ceilings. my wife appreciates my hobby. dick

Most of the wings on a rack like Minn Flyer's, in my shop. Fuselages nose down in my den, leaning against the wall, and hither and yon all over my shop, in my way in general.....a fleet of 18. Gave in and sold my P-39 so gained a little more room. Thinking of renting "hangar space" from my son-in-law in his 3 car garage:D

I made a rack from PVC that hangs from the ceiling in the garage. It's an open frame like two parallel bars 16 in from top of ceiling 18 in between them and 18 ft long. Works very well. Can't open one garage door though.

This is for DICKNADINE. My wife has supported my hobby for 20 years, she even flew for a few years and was the President of our club, but if she came home and found planes hanging from the living room ceiling my life would flash before my eyes in a heartbeat.

the Ceiling hangers are a mutual thing. Her ART work is a MUseum thru-out the house plus the many in the local shops for sale. we CO-EXist and have enjoyed it for almost 52 years. i now spend more time at home with her, rather than out building and Racing Unlimited Race Boats, working around the clock, designing Space Vehicles. heck its all in a life time-- ONLY GET TO DO IT ONCE--- Nadine adds her .25 cents worth. our guests and strangers sure appreciate our GOD given talent !! You have to resort to many different methods .Looks like I am not the only one with to many planes!

Hi Guys,

For what it's worth I use old seat belts from wrecked cars to suspend my models from the joists in the garage and my shed. I use a loop at the front and the belt buckle just forward of the empenage to clip and unclip. If anyone is interested I will post some photos.

I have the same space problem and now I have the airplanes hanging from the walls in my sons room. All I did was hang medium sized hooks and then used bungy cords around the tail. Super cheap and easy to install. Works for the wings too.
