Converting LT-40 to a tail dragger
Greetings,
I'd like to convert my trusty LT-40 to a tail dragger. A couple of questions: 1) Can you recommend a main landing gear/tail wheel set (or seperate pieces). 2) Where do you mount the new mlg? How do you figure it out? Thanks, Tim |
RE: Converting LT-40 to a tail dragger
Hangar 9/ Dubro/ Great Planes all make aluminum mains...suggest you figure out how tall the gear has to be to allow prop to clear the ground. As for tail wheel mounts...Sullivan makes one that is steerable and easy to retrofit to an already built plane(just put on on my 4*).
Reinforce the bottom/sides of the fuse and mount gear so that axles are slightly ahead of leading edge(Haven't converted an LT40, just an Eagle 2...). There's probably someone out there who can give more precise measurements... Recheck c/g and you should be good to go! Hope this helps.... |
RE: Converting LT-40 to a tail dragger
I converted my Superstar 40 to a tail dragger. I just moved the main gear forward and removed the nose wheel. I did have to glue a pine block on the inside of the fuselage so I would have a solid place to mount the MG.
As for the tail wheel, you could just attach a skid, though your ground handling will suffer. Or just take CP140's advice. |
