The Hammer?
 

I got an old plane (mid 80's) called the hammer, all that it needs is to be covered, have the contol serfaces attached, radio, and engine. Do any of you know something about it?

That's a Dick Sarpolus design. I have a .20 size I got over the internet and am getting flight-ready. The grass at our field is very lush and when I tried it, it nosed over immediately. It's a tail-dragger. It needs larger wheels and the gear bent forward about an inch. These were a family of planes, from .049 to a .90 I believe. What size is yours? Tail-dragger or tricycle?

Davey Systems kitted this one in the 80s. I never flew one, but judged one in sportsman pattern and it flew respectably. The one I saw had trike gear.

I ran across a rumor that Penn Valley Hobby Center had bought out Davey. You might drop them a line and see if that's true.

it takes a .20-.30 and its a tail dragger, but im thinking about putting a .40 in it so i dont have to buy a new engine, will it work?

had the 20 size....flew it with a 32 OS, it was one of the best 20 class planes I ever flew !!!
if I ever came across a kit I would buy it in a heartbeat.
the kit quality was a bit rough, but the finished product made it worth the work.

i havent looked at it for a while so most of the info i gave you was wrong, it is a .25 tricicle landing gear plane

i didnt have to build it, i got it from a guy who used to fly, but never finished it, it is beautifly built, i might take some pics later

Hi,

I had one of these just after they came out. Excellent flying planes but do NOT put a .40 on the nose... it does great on a .25 abc with or without a pipe. It was designed to be what it is and that is a .25 sized pattern ship. I would recommend either a OS .25 or .32 or webra .32 with or without the pipe. It is definitely not a begineers plane. If you would like to trade or sell it for an easier flying plane, let me know.

I had a Hammer a few years ago and loved it! I bought it at an auction for $40 including the engine and servos. It may have been a larger one, but had an OS 40 Fp in it and flew great. I flew the crap outta' that plane, and it was one of the most stable planes I've ever had. (It was a tail dragger.)

I was able to slow it down and fly it around the perimeter of the field at just over a walking speed. One other thing, I was doing a low inverted pass over the field and dumb thumbed it. The plane cartwheeled down the runway about eight times, the only damaged was to the wing mounting block, and I had it flying again within a couple days.

i will as soon as it gets up, sadly i have a 4* and some repairs ahead of it, but it should be up by the end of the season
