Chick:

My Tiger Moth (67" span from a Premier Kit) balances 6.0" from LE of top wing. It flies perfectly at this location, given the wing sweepback. It could probably go further back at least 0.5" and still be very stable.

Hope this helps.

Hi Dennis,

Did you build your Premier Tiger Moth yourself? It looks very nice. How well did the Premier kit go together?

Yes, I built the Tiger Moth. The kit (like most british kits) has a lot of individual parts but is reasonably easy to build. It's fairly scale in outline too. Unfortunately, Premier is no longer available. At one time Hobby Lobby imported them.

This one weighs 11.5 pounds and is (over)powered by an OS .91 Surpass.

Hi Dennis,

Thanks for the info. Did you encounter any particular difficulties with the Premier kit? For example, any parts fit problems? I'm not bothered by it being a "builders kit" with lots of small parts. In fact, I welcome it.

The size of you Moth appeals to me. But just out of curiosity do you know of any that are available in larger sizes? I have a ZDZ60 that's not doing anything at the moment.

Again, many thanks for the comments.

Regards
Gene

Gene:

The Premier kit has a few minor fit problems - some of the lite ply parts were not too crisp. The original fin and rudder was ply but I substituted balsa for lightness. There is another British Tiger Moth kit by Flair in 1/4 scale see: http://www.iwks.co.uk/Aircraft/Class...caleframes.htm That will probably be good for your ZDZ. Plus, they say it is a "builder's kit"!

Another source is a Canadian 1/4 scalemade by Clark Industries, see: http://www.clarkindustries.on.ca/index.html

Sounds good. Looks like the Premier kit might be for me. Turns out the 1/4 scale Moths are way too small for the ZDZ60, which means that one sized for the ZDZ would be way bigger than I would care to build. Besides, the more I think about it the Premier just seems the perfect size.

Thanks again
Gene
