Plans on CD
Don't really know where to put this question so I figured I would put it here and let the moderators do with it as they see fit. I have seen alot of CD's for sale across the Internet (and on diffrent auction sites like E**y). Advertising 1500 or 3000 plans on one CD for $10 or $12 dollars. I was wondering if any of you have ever seen one of these and wither is was worth it or not? It sounds alttle too good to be true.

RE: Plans on CD
I am sure several of the plans would be "good".
You should realize that these are OLD STYLE plans, and for the most part are most likely overbuilt. This means you will need to go into the plan and "re-engineer" it to get it lighter without losing any strength. The biggest problem I see is getting the print from the disk to paper. You will need a CAD reader (there are several free ones out there ) that can print the plan in sections. Plan on using MANY sheets of paper and an ink cartridge to do this. Then the fun begins as you assemble the "jigsaw" puzzle. Once it is assembled you will most likely need to have someplace like Kinkos do a print in one piece. Personally, I don't feel they are worth the money considering all the effort (and money ) needed to get the plans into a useable form. |
RE: Plans on CD
I'm an engineer by trade with access to Acad 2004 and a plotter. So none of that should be a problem just wondering what other peoples experiance was.

Nobody's ever bought them??? Guess I will be the first should have them in a few days.

RE: Plans on CD
I've read comments from people saying that they are often just plans that were scanned from magazines, and stuff "borrowed" from web sites. If you don't mind throwing away $10-15, give them a try. I'm sure people here would be interested in hearing what you find.

RE: Plans on CD
I have them. Many many plans, not what I was looking for. None of the big names. Just plans, lots of them are unusable for RC. I didn't think it was worth it.
The RCM plan guide on CD would be a lot better. I have the RCM plan guide books and they rock. You can get anything you want from them. |
