Servo installation
Hi everybody. I have a question about servo installation. I have seen servos for rudder or elevator control that are installed far back on the fuse, with half the servo sticking out. I have even seen servos on giant scale planes that are mounted right behind the engine for throttle control. Doesn't exaust residue harm servos? Or is there a way which I cannot figure out that it doesn't get on the servos?
Thanks |
RE: Servo installation
Hi!
Most high cost servos are water tight...but you don't get much oil on the servos mounting them at the rear. And most of these large airplanes are gas powered so they don't have a lot of oil in their exhaust gases like the big glow engines have. Regards! Jan K Sweden |

Servos are sealed - to a point. Some are specially sealed for special applications. For the most part, you're ok as long as you're not getting too much gunk on them.
If you are, you can always make some sort of shield or cover for them. Little toys that come in those "Plastic bubble glued to a piece of cardboard" type packages can be a great way of getting a plastic shield. And it makes you a hero to some 8 yr old when you get him or her an unexpected toy. "Just let me keep the plastic bubble that it came in!" :D |

Thanks guys. I might just try the 'buying my daughter a present or two' approach. I do that anyway, this time I'll pay attention to the packaging too!
